Join Us in Thanking Our Amazing Staff – May 5–9

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and we love to invite you to join us in celebrating the incredible teachers and staff who make a difference in our schools every day.

From the classroom to the front office, from the cafeteria to the playground—every staff member plays a vital role in helping our students learn and grow. Their hard work, care, and dedication do not go unnoticed.

On Friday, May 9, during our professional development day, we’ll take time to recognize a few of these outstanding individuals from each school:
  • Teacher of the Year
  • Classified Staff of the Year
  • Friend of Education

Please take a moment next week to thank a teacher or staff member. A kind word goes a long way. Thank you all for being part of this caring and supportive community!

Some information and updates for you:

Parent Universities Focus on Key Transition Years

Tonight and tomorrow, we’re bringing a dream from our Superintendent’s Advisory Council to life. Our schools are hosting Parent University events to support families during big transitions:

  • Kindergarten 101 - 6:30 p.m. tonight at Swan Falls High School
  • High School 101 - 6:30 p.m. tonight at Kuna High School
  • Middle School 101 - 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kuna and Fremont middle schools
These events are designed to help parents understand what to expect and how to support their child through each step.
Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make these events happen—we’re excited to see them in action!
And we’re not done yet! A Senior Year 101 session for parents of next year’s seniors will be held in August 2025.

Revised Elementary Attendance Zones Coming Soon

We’re making changes to attendance zones for Silver Trail and Reed elementary schools. About 145 students will move to new schools:
  • Kindergarten–3rd grade students will go to Hubbard
  • 4th–5th grade students will go to Ross
We’ll share a proposed plan later this week with families who are affected and invite them to a May 5 Open House to learn more and ask questions. The school board will review the plan on May 13.

Worried About Crowded Schools? Join the Capital Plan Task Force

We’re planning for the future of our school buildings, and we need your help! The Capital Plan Task Force meets again on May 12. If you’d like to join, email Assistant Superintendent Jason Reddy at jjreddy@kunaschools.org.
At the April meeting, the task force:
  • Visited classrooms at Kuna High to learn about building capacity (how many students a building can hold) vs. educational capacity (how many students can learn well with the right space and teachers)
  • 👉 Takeaway: Kuna High is over capacity.

  • Heard from our financial advisor about taxes and district debt
  • 👉 Takeaway: Our property tax rate is the lowest it’s been in 15 years.

  • Saw city growth maps showing new housing
  • 👉 Takeaway: In the next 18 months, we may have 500+ more students.

Help Us Plan Future School Calendars

A team of parents, teachers, and staff are creating school calendars for 2026-27 and 2027-28. They’re looking at two choices:
  • Traditional calendar
  • A calendar where grades 6–12 finish first semester before Christmas break
➡️ Please check out the options and take a quick survey if you haven’t already!
