Cheetah Chatter

Can you believe it is September?

September 5, 2025

The school year is off to a great start! It has been a joy to welcome students back and see their energy and enthusiasm fill our classrooms and hallways.

We are excited to launch into our learning adventure together. Our focus this year will be on fostering curiosity, building strong relationships, and creating a positive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

Thank you for your continued partnership. We’re looking forward to a wonderful year ahead!

The Cheetah Run is Coming!

The Cheetah Run is coming up on September 26!  Forms will be coming home with your students today with information. Parents are invited to attend the PTO Meeting being held September 15 (Membership Meeting) at 4pm in Room 4 to learn more, or have your questions answered.

We Are an AVID Certified School!

We are proud to share that Reed is a certified AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school! This means we are committed to providing all students with the skills, strategies, and mindset they need to be successful in school and prepared for college, careers, and beyond.

AVID supports students by promoting organization, critical thinking, collaboration, and academic ownership. You may see your child using binders, planners, focused note-taking, or participating in Socratic seminars and collaborative study groups—all part of AVID’s proven strategies.

We believe deeply in the benefits AVID brings to our students, helping them grow not just as learners, but as confident, capable individuals ready to take on future challenges.

Thank you for supporting your child’s education. Together, we are building a strong foundation for lifelong success.

Safety Drills

Our teachers have been reviewing the Idaho Standard Command Responses for Schools (ISCRS). They are talking about the four safety responses we practice and what each one means:
  • Evacuation – exiting the building (for example, a fire drill).
  • Reverse Evacuation – quickly coming inside (for example, returning from recess if there is a concern on the playground).
  • Hall Check – staying in the classroom with doors shut and locked when there is a known distraction in the hallway, allowing teaching and learning to continue. We often say, “every student gets what they need.”
  • Lockdown – remaining in the classroom with doors locked, lights off, and staying quiet if an unknown person is in the building. Police respond when this occurs.

We practice safety drills regularly so students feel prepared, confident, and safe if one is ever needed. We held our first fire drill last Thursday. Our teachers and students made it a huge success!

Bikes, Scooters, and Wheels: Campus Guidelines

To help keep all students, families, and staff safe, we ask that no motorized bikes, scooters, segways, or similar devices be used on campus. Additionally, all bikes and scooters must be walked—not ridden—while on school grounds, including sidewalks, pick-up/drop-off areas, and blacktops. For safety reasons, skateboards, rollerblades, and similar items are not permitted on campus during school hours. Thank you for supporting a safe and welcoming environment for everyone!

Help to Manage Your ParentSquare Account

Are you overwhelmed with the number of emails, texts, and app notification you are getting from ParentSquare? Set your notifications to Digest and you will receive one email and/or one text and/or one app notification providing access to all ParentSquare information at the end of the day. Note: If you receive notification by email, you'll receive a daily digest email from your district and schools separately if there are posts that day.

See attached link: Managing ParentSquare Account

Cell Phones & Smart Watches

Reed is focused on learning! We want to prioritize instruction time and allow recess to be time for face-to-face social interaction.

For this reason, we ask that any student with a cell phone/Smart device leave them in their backpacks and off during the school day (exception: documented medical uses).

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Cheetahs!
