Thank you parents and PTO

Thank you for attending parent-teacher conferences last week. We truly value and appreciate your time, your trust in us, and your commitment to your child’s education. Your partnership plays a vital role in supporting their growth and success, and we are grateful to work together in helping them thrive.

Thank you to everyone, students, staff, families, and community members, who participated in our Book Fair—it was a great success! Your support helps foster a love of reading in our students.

A special thank you to the families who contributed to teachers' wish lists. We truly appreciate your generosity and love seeing our classroom libraries grow with new and exciting books for our students to enjoy.

Cooler Weather Reminder

As the cooler weather settles in, please be sure to send your child to school dressed in layers to keep them comfortable throughout the day. Mornings can be chilly, but classrooms and afternoons often warm up.

Also, we kindly ask that you label your child’s coats, jackets, and outerwear with their name. This helps us return lost items quickly and keeps our lost-and-found from overflowing.

Thank you for your help in keeping everyone warm, comfortable, and organized!

  • Button designs are due by Wednesday, October 22nd
  • Attached are the Button Contest Entry Forms
  • 1–2 winning designs will be selected per grade level

Donations still needed

We are currently in need of donations of new underwear for both boys and girls in a variety of sizes. The supply we had at the beginning of the year has already been used, and we would greatly appreciate any contributions you are able to make.

We also have used our supply of x-small, small, and medium shorts, pants, and leggings. If you have new or gently used shorts, pants, and leggings, we would appreciate those donations as well.

Additionally, if your child occasionally has accidents, we kindly ask that you send a change of clean clothes (including underwear) in their backpack to help them feel more comfortable throughout the day.

Thank you for your support and generosity!

Class Activities
Teachers are organizing school appropriate class celebrations and will share this information with you. All food items for the class party must be commercially produced. We cannot accept homemade goodies.

Parade (3:10-3:30)
We will have a school wide costume parade at the end of the day. 2nd - 5th grade students will put on their costumes a few minutes before the parade. Teachers will lead their classes through the parade. Costumes are not required, but all students will have the opportunity to walk the parade route and see others’ costumes. At the completion of the parade, students will return to their classrooms to gather their belongings. Students will be dismissed from school in their costumes.

Costumes
  • Kindergarten and 1st grade only – Students in kindergarten and 1st grade will be allowed to come to school with their costumes already on over their clothes
  • 2nd-5th Grade Students - Bring in a bag—Do NOT wear to school
  • Costumes must fit over clothes.
  • Students will put costumes on in the classroom over their clothing before the parade. Students should practice putting their costume on by themselves at home.
  • Students will be dismissed from school in their costumes
  • Focus on fun, not scary – No blood or gore
  • No makeup, body, or face paint of any kind
  • No “costume masks” of any kind
  • No toy weapons or props

*One of the expectations at Reed is to take Responsibility. It is important that everyone adhere to the costume guidelines to make this a fun and memorable day! Please help us ensure that students are responsible for following these rules. These rules will be strictly followed and enforced.

AVID! R: Reading

WICOR is a core instructional framework used within AVID.

R: Reading

In the AVID context, Reading goes beyond just reading texts. It includes:
  • Analyzing and interpreting texts
  • Understanding the author's purpose, tone, and structure
  • Building vocabulary
  • Making connections between texts and real-world concepts
  • Using textual evidence to support ideas

Examples of AVID strategies for "R - Reading" you might see at Reed:
  • Marking the text
  • Using graphic organizers (like double-entry journals)
  • Socratic seminars using text evidence
  • Reciprocal teaching
  • Annotating for main ideas, claims, and evidence
