A Heartfelt Thank You for a Fabulous Fiesta!

Dear Reed Families,

On behalf of the entire school, we want to extend a sincere and enthusiastic thank you to everyone who contributed to making this year's Fiesta such a resounding success!

Your generosity truly shone through. We are immensely grateful to those who donated, whether it was through giving their time to help organize and staff the event, or by contributing food, drinks, materials, art supplies, and more. These donations are what make this tradition possible every year.

We were also thrilled to see such a fantastic turnout! It was exciting to see so many families celebrating together. The energy and community spirit were contagious.

Highlights from the Evening:
  • Fabulous Music Programs: Our students performed beautifully, showcasing their talent and hard work.
  • Recognizing Our Graduates: This is always a very special moment for our school community, and we were honored to celebrate our graduates as they prepare for their next chapter.
  • K-12 Dual Teacher Representation: We deeply appreciate having our entire team of dual-language teachers, from Kindergarten through 12th grade, represented at the Fiesta. Their commitment is the cornerstone of our program.
  • Ornament Sales: Each grade level made adorable ornaments that were themed for their Christmas Tree. Each ornament represented a student at Reed.

The Fiesta is a cherished and well-attended tradition at Reed, and it is the support and enthusiasm of our families that make this festivity so incredibly special.

Thank you again for your continued support and for being such a vibrant part of the Reed community. We look forward to seeing you all next year!

Keeping Our Community Healthy: A Partnership

Dear Cheetah Families,

As we head into the holiday season, we know that many different viruses are circulating, and we are asking for your help to keep our students and staff healthy and in school. The health and well-being of our entire community is our top priority!

A key to maintaining a healthy environment is a strong partnership between home and school. Please help us by encouraging your child(ren) to practice these simple yet effective health habits:

  • Hand Washing: Please encourage them to wash their hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Hydration: Ensure they are drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Cover Coughs: Remind them to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or their elbow when they cough or sneeze.
  • Rest: Emphasize the importance of getting plenty of rest each night.

When to Stay Home
We know it's hard for students to miss school, but it is critical that if your child is not feeling well, they must stay home. Students and staff who come to school sick spread germs to others, causing widespread illness and making it harder for those who are sick to recover quickly.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone!

Focusing on AVID Strategies During the Holidays—At Home and at School

 WICOR AVID Activities for Home
1. Reading (R)
  • Activity: Holiday Reading Challenge
  • Focus: Reading for Enjoyment.
  • At-Home Application: Encourage your student to read a book from a different genre each week (like a historical fiction set in winter, a sci-fi, or a biography). Model reading by setting aside 20 minutes for the whole family to read silently together.
2. Inquiry (I) & Collaboration (C)
  • Activity: The Great Family Debate/Discussion
  • Focus: Family Discussions (Inquiry) and Collaboration.
  • At-Home Application: Use open-ended questions during holiday meal preparation or at the dinner table.
  • Examples: "If you could change one holiday tradition, what would it be and why?" or "What is the most creative use of a budget you've ever heard of?"
  • Have the student be the "facilitator" who asks the questions and ensures everyone shares their perspective politely.
3. Organization (O)
  • Activity: Holiday Project Planner
  • Focus: Real-Life Organization by helping plan events and managing schedules.
  • At-Home Application: Have the student use a planner or calendar to help plan holiday events.
  • Break down a major task (like baking cookies or wrapping gifts) into small, numbered steps with a timeline. This is a practical application of organization skills taught in AVID.
  • Give them a small, fixed amount of money to budget for gifts for one or two family members, requiring them to track their spending.
4. Writing (W)
  • Activity: Gratitude Journal or Reflection Letters
  • Focus: Writing through holiday cards, gratitude lists, or journaling.
  • At-Home Application:
  • Before the break ends, have the student write a letter of reflection about the past semester. What was their biggest success? What is one goal for the new semester?
  • Start a daily "Gratitude List" where they write down three things they are thankful for, practicing thoughtful, organized writing.

Winter Weather Dress

Time to Bundle Up! Recess Reminders

The cold weather is officially here! We believe that getting outside for fresh air and movement is essential for our students, even in the winter. Therefore, we plan to hold recess outdoors as long as the temperature is 18 degrees Fahrenheit or above.

To ensure your child stays warm, dry, and healthy during outdoor time, please make sure they come to school each day prepared with the following:

  • Warm Coat: A heavy coat suitable for cold weather.
  • Hat and Gloves/Mittens: These are essential for keeping heads and hands warm!
  • Scarf or Neck Gaiter: To protect the neck and chest.
  • Warm Pants: Snow pants are encouraged on snowy or very cold days.
  • Boots: Necessary for keeping feet dry in snow or slush.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Please write your child's name clearly on ALL belongings! With so many winter items coming off and going on for recess, things often get lost and misplaced. Labeling coats, hats, mittens, boots, and backpacks is the best way to ensure that lost items make it back home to your student quickly.

If your family needs assistance with obtaining any necessary winter clothing, please contact the school office, and we will be happy to help connect you with resources.

Reminder to check ParentSquare

December is a busy month! It is important to check Parent Square and all information that comes from your child's teacher and the school to be sure you don't miss something.

Picking Up Students Early

Just a friendly reminder....

If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office by 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and by 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.

This allows us enough time to locate your child, as schedules often change throughout the day and students may be in specials, recess, or other activities. Calling ahead ensures your child is ready and waiting when you arrive.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe for all students!
