Principal's Message

We spent time last week reflecting on student growth as grade level teams. We are proud of or Cheetahs for working hard to learn and grow. However, we are not done yet! We are in the thick of the learning, and we expect our teachers and students will continue to make strong gains as we prepare students for the expectations of the next grade level.

We are incredibly proud of our students for the perseverance and effort they are putting into their learning, and we are grateful for our teachers who continue to push themselves to meet students where they are and help them grow.

Your support at home also plays an important role in this success, and we appreciate the partnership we share with our families. Thank you for being part of a community that values learning, growth, and hard work. We look forward to continuing this momentum together.

We appreciate your partnership,
Principal Moore

Kuna Education Foundation (KEF) Bridge Grant Recipient

We were excited today to have Mrs. Stewart, of the KEF, come and present February's KEF Bridge Grant to Maestra Hernandez. Maestra Hernandez teaches fifth grade Dual Language at Reed. She is dedicated to bilingualism and cultural literacy. Maestra does more than just teach! She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure her students are developing into true bilingual learners.

100th Day of School

We are excited to share that this week celebrated the 100th day of school!

Each kindergarten classroom celebrated differently. Be sure to ask your student what their class did to celebrate 100 days of learning!

We look forward to celebrating this fun and memorable day with our students each year!

Spring Pictures are Monday!

Get those smiles ready! Dorian Spring Picture Day is officially scheduled for Monday , February 9th.

Unlike fall pictures, these are typically individual portraits with a spring flair. Please keep an eye out for order forms coming home in backpacks, or you can simplify your morning by ordering online ahead of time.

Quick Tips for a Great Photo:
  • Bright Colors: Solid colors or simple patterns tend to photograph best.
  • Avoid Large Logos: To keep the focus on your student's smiling face!
  • Haircuts: If you're planning a trim, it’s often helpful to schedule it about a week before the big day.

We can’t wait to see all those bright Cheetah smiles!

The Talent Show is coming!

If you have a 4th or 5th grader, and they have a talent they would like to share, please encourage them to audition for the upcoming Talent Show. Talent Show permission slips are due to the classroom teacher by February 13.

If your 4th or 5th grader is interested in auditioning, encourage them to keep practicing—auditions are coming up on February 18 and 19. We can’t wait to see our Cheetahs talents shine!

AVID: Small Habits, Big Results!

At Reed Elementary, we are committed to building college and career readiness skills through AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). You don't have to wait for the school bell to ring to practice these habits!

Help your student stay organized and sharp by trying these simple Writing & Reflection activities this week:
  • Learning Logs: Ask your child to write a quick, two-sentence summary of what they read or learned today. It’s a great way to boost comprehension!
  • Gratitude Notes: Encourage your Cheetah to write a short note or journal entry about someone or something they are thankful for.
  • Cornell Note Practice: For our older students, try practicing the "three-section" paper method:
  1. Notes (the main details)
  2. Key Words (the big ideas)
  3. Summary (the "bottom line")
Why it matters: These tools help students process information more deeply and develop a "growth mindset" that will serve them all the way through graduation and beyond.

Cell Phone and SMART Devices

Reed is a learning zone. We want to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.

For that reason, we have any student with a cell phones or a smart device turn them off and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for documented medical uses).

Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).

If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time.

Keeping Our Community Healthy: A Partnership

Dear Cheetah Families,

As we return to school following Winter Break, we know that many different viruses are continuing to circulate, and we are asking for your help to keep our students and staff healthy and in school. The health and well-being of our entire community is our top priority!

A key to maintaining a healthy environment is a strong partnership between home and school. Please help us by encouraging your child(ren) to practice these simple yet effective health habits:

  • Hand Washing: Please encourage them to wash their hands frequently with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Hydration: Ensure they are drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
  • Cover Coughs: Remind them to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or their elbow when they cough or sneeze.
  • Rest: Emphasize the importance of getting plenty of rest each night.

When to Stay Home
We know it's hard for students to miss school, but it is critical that if your child is not feeling well, they must stay home. Students and staff who come to school sick spread germs to others, causing widespread illness and making it harder for those who are sick to recover quickly.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone!

Picking Up Students Early

Just a friendly reminder....

If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office by 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and by 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.

This allows us enough time to locate your child, as schedules often change throughout the day and students may be in specials, recess, or other activities. Calling ahead ensures your child is ready and waiting when you arrive.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe for all students!

Food Service and Food Allergies Information

Our Child Nutrition Program (CNP) is sharing this reminder about procedures regarding student food allergies and account information:

Allergy Accommodations
  • A current medical statement must be on file in order to accommodate any meal-related allergies.
  • Without this documentation, we cannot provide allergy accommodations.
Following Medical Statements
  • When a medical statement is on file, we must follow it exactly as written.
  • Any changes or deviations require updated documentation from the parent or guardian."

The CNP website is listed below. The form is called Meal Accommodation Form. It is available in English and Spanish.
