Dear Cheetah Families,
We have some exciting updates to share from this past week at Reed Elementary!
🏢 Building Update: New HVAC Unit
We are thrilled to announce that our new HVAC unit has been installed! This upgrade will ensure a much more comfortable learning environment for our students and staff.
A huge thank you to Mr. Fuller and his team for their incredible hard work. They worked closely with the installation company to ensure everything was set up and running smoothly. We truly appreciate their dedication to keeping our school in top shape!
💖 Kindness Week Recap
Kindness Week was a resounding success! It was wonderful to see our school community come together to spread positivity. Here are a few highlights:
-
Acts of Kindness: Throughout the week, students and staff practiced intentional random acts of kindness, making our hallways a brighter place.
-
Kindness Spots: To celebrate these efforts, we held "Special Kindness Spot" drawings each day during our daily announcements to recognize and reward those caught being kind.
-
Spirit Days: Thank you to everyone who participated in our dress-up days! Seeing the students and staff engage so enthusiastically really added to the week's energy.
Thank you for your continued support in making Reed Elementary such a kind and welcoming place to learn!

As we move through February, our AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) focus at Reed Elementary continues to build the "hidden curriculum" skills that help Cheetahs succeed.
Since it is mid-February, here is a fresh look at how you can support our current school-wide AVID goals at home:
🏠 AVID at Home: February Focus
-
Mid-Trimester Binder "Reset": With the end of Trimester 2 approaching (February 27), now is a perfect time for a binder refresh. Ask your student to show you their Organization progress. Help them clear out old loose papers and ensure their dividers are labeled correctly. A tidy binder leads to a tidy mind!
-
The "Two-Sentence" Learning Log: AVID is all about Writing to Learn. After school, instead of asking "How was your day?", try asking: "What is one thing you learned today?" * The AVID Twist: Have them write a quick, two-sentence summary in a notebook. This simple habit moves information from short-term to long-term memory.
-
Collaborative Goal Setting: In the spirit of Kindness Week, talk with your child about a "Collaboration Goal." Ask them how they worked with a partner or group this week to solve a problem. This reinforces the Collaboration component of WICOR.
-
WICOR in the Kitchen: February is a great time for indoor activities. If you are baking or cooking, have your student practice Inquiry by asking "What if" questions (e.g., "What if we doubled the baking powder?") or Reading to follow multi-step directions.
🎓 Why It Matters
By practicing these habits now, our students are mastering skills that will carry them through middle school and beyond. Whether it’s 1st graders learning to organize a folder or 5th graders practicing Cornell Notes, these small daily habits lead to big results.

Please join us for our next PTO Membership Meeting this Monday, February 23, at 4:00 PM in Room 4.
The PTO is an instrumental part of Reed and contributes significantly to successful student learning and our school's vibrant culture. Whether you are a returning member or looking to get involved for the first time, your voice and support make a difference!
We look forward to seeing you there!

Reed is a learning zone. We want to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.
For that reason, we have any student with a cell phones or a smart device turn them off and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for documented medical uses).
Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).
If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.
Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time.

Dear Cheetah Families,
There is a lot of sickness going around. Just a friendly reminder that your child needs to be fever free and improving symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school.
|
Just a friendly reminder....
If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office by 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and by 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.
This allows us enough time to locate your child, as schedules often change throughout the day and students may be in specials, recess, or other activities. Calling ahead ensures your child is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe for all students!

Our Child Nutrition Program (CNP) is sharing this reminder about procedures regarding student food allergies and account information:
Allergy Accommodations
- A current medical statement must be on file in order to accommodate any meal-related allergies.
- Without this documentation, we cannot provide allergy accommodations.
Following Medical Statements
- When a medical statement is on file, we must follow it exactly as written.
- Any changes or deviations require updated documentation from the parent or guardian."
The CNP website is listed below. The form is called Meal Accommodation Form. It is available in English and Spanish.
