Cheetah Chatter! February 27, 2026

Posted Date: 02/27/26 (03:50 PM)

Happy Friday!

As we wrap up February, it's amazing to see how fast the year is moving.

Today marks the end of Trimester 2. While the excitement of May and year-end celebrations is on the horizon, the next few weeks—both before and after Spring Break—are vital for student learning.

We have a lot of growth ahead of us in Trimester 3, and we look forward to making every moment count!

Celebrating National FFA Week and Our Amazing AG Pals!

This week, we are excited to celebrate National FFA Week! We want to extend a huge "Thank You" to our incredible AG Pals from Kuna High School.

Each year, these dedicated high school students partner with our 4th-grade classes to teach our Cheetahs about the amazing world of Idaho agriculture. From classroom visits to their biennial Ag Expo for our 1st and 2nd graders, the AG Pals bring learning to life in such a meaningful way.

The fun continues next week! On Friday, our 4th graders will be heading to Kuna High School for our 3rd Ag Pal meet-up of the year. We are so grateful for this partnership and the leadership these high school students show our younger learners.

Happy FFA Week!

Volunteers Needed: LEGO League Expo

Kuna School District is excited to host our district-wide elementary school LEGO League Explore Expo, and we need your help to make it a success! We are looking for 30 judges to help celebrate the hard work of approximately 35 teams from across our six elementary schools.

As a judge, you’ll get to:
  • Interview teams about their LEGO models and research posters.
  • Provide positive feedback to inspire students' interest in STEM.
  • Celebrate the creativity and technical skills of our young roboticists.

No prior robotics experience is necessary! We will provide all the training and materials you need on the morning of the event. We just need your time, encouragement, and curiosity.

AVID: Heading into Trimester 3

Organization: The March "Reset"

Since March marks the start of Trimester 3, it’s the perfect time for a physical and mental organizational refresh.

  • Binder Overhaul: Spend 15 minutes with your child clearing out old papers from Trimester 2. Ensure their dividers are labeled correctly and their pencil pouch is restocked. A tidy binder reduces "mental clutter."

  • The "Two-Sentence" Learning Log: Instead of asking "How was school?", ask your child to write down (or tell you) two sentences about what they learned. This simple habit moves information from short-term to long-term memory.

  • Agenda Check: Continue the habit of reviewing the school agenda nightly. Ask your child to explain one upcoming deadline or project they’ve noted.

🔍 Inquiry: Building "Level 2" Thinking
AVID uses "Costa’s Levels of Thinking" to move students beyond simple "yes/no" answers.

  • "What If" Kitchen Science: While cooking, ask inquiry-based questions: "What if we doubled the baking powder?" or "Why do you think the water is boiling now?"

  • Reading to Question: When reading together, don’t just ask what happened. Ask, "What do you think the character will do next based on what we know?" or "How would the story change if it were set in a different place?"

🤝 Collaboration & Writing

  • Collaborative Goal Setting: In the spirit of "Kindness Month," set a family collaboration goal. Ask your child how they worked with a partner at school and try to mirror that teamwork during chores or weekend projects.

  • WICOR in the Wild: Use the WICOR framework (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) during everyday errands. At the grocery store, have your child "Inquire" by comparing prices or "Organize" the list by aisle.

Cell Phone and SMART Devices

Reed is a learning zone. We want to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.

For that reason, we have any student with a cell phones or a smart device turn them off and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for documented medical uses).

Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).

If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time.

Picking Up Students Early

Just a friendly reminder....

If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office by 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and by 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.

This allows us enough time to locate your child, as schedules often change throughout the day and students may be in specials, recess, or other activities. Calling ahead ensures your child is ready and waiting when you arrive.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe for all students!

Food Service and Food Allergies Information

Our Child Nutrition Program (CNP) is sharing this reminder about procedures regarding student food allergies and account information:

Allergy Accommodations
  • A current medical statement must be on file in order to accommodate any meal-related allergies.
  • Without this documentation, we cannot provide allergy accommodations.
Following Medical Statements
  • When a medical statement is on file, we must follow it exactly as written.
  • Any changes or deviations require updated documentation from the parent or guardian."

The CNP website is listed below. The form is called Meal Accommodation Form. It is available in English and Spanish.
