What a fantastic week we’ve had leading up to Spring Break!
Our students and staff have been incredibly engaged in their learning, but the real highlight was the mystery involving Honkerella, our resident goose.
Honkerella has been on a mission this week, and our students jumped right in to help her track down some mischievous leprechauns who have been making messes in several of our classrooms! It was a delight to see the creativity and joy this brought to the halls.

Spring break is the perfect time to reinforce AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies in a relaxed, "real-world" way. Since our Cheetahs have been working hard on WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading), here are some simple, fun ways to keep those skills sharp at home:
📝 Writing
- Spring Break Postcards: Have your child write a postcard to their teacher or a family member about their favorite part of the day.
- Nature Journaling: While playing outside, encourage your student to write descriptive words about what they see (clouds, birds, flowers) and turn them into a short poem.
❓ Inquiry
- The "Why" Game: Turn daily activities into moments of curiosity. Ask open-ended questions like, "Why do you think the baker used that ingredient?" or "What would happen if we changed the rules of this game?"
- Kitchen Science: While cooking or baking, ask your child to help measure ingredients and predict what will happen when they are mixed and heated.
🤝 Collaboration
- Family Board Games: Playing games is a fantastic way to practice following directions and strategy. Have your student be the "Rule Expert" who explains the instructions to everyone else.
- Shared Challenges: Try a "No-Hands Cup Stacking Challenge" or work together to build the tallest marshmallow tower possible.
🗂️ Organization
- Spring Cleaning Checklists: Let your student take charge by creating a checklist for their daily chores or packing their own bag for a day trip.
- Choice Boards: Help them plan their week using a "choice board" where they can organize their own fun adventures, balancing play time with reading time.
📖 Reading
- Reading Bingo: Create a Bingo card with challenges like "read in a fort," "read to a pet," or "read a book with a blue cover."
- Book-to-Movie Night: Pick a movie that was originally a book. Read the story together first, then watch the movie and discuss the differences—it’s a great way to build comprehension!

Reed is a learning zone. We want to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.
For that reason, we have any student with a cell phones or a smart device turn them off and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for documented medical uses).
Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).
If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.
Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time.
|
Just a friendly reminder....
If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office by 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and by 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.
This allows us enough time to locate your child, as schedules often change throughout the day and students may be in specials, recess, or other activities. Calling ahead ensures your child is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe for all students!
