A Message from the Principal

What an inspiring week it has been! We have balanced the hard work of testing with the creative energy of Earth Day, and I am so proud of the spirit our students and staff have shown.

🌍 Celebrating Earth Day
Our school was buzzing with environmental stewardship this week:
  • CAST Students: Produced a wonderful video highlighting the importance of taking care of our planet.
  • 5th Grade: Participated in Earth Day rotations, getting creative with everything from "garbage art" to learning the ins and outs of recycling.
  • Kindergarten: Took a nature walk to observe the beauty around them, recording their findings and creating beautiful watercolor drawings.
  • 4th Grade: Continues to watch their plants grow in their classrooms.

📝 ISAT Testing Update
We officially kicked off ISAT testing this week, and our grades 3–5 students were absolutely "on point."
  • A Special Shout-out: To Maestra Garcia’s class for being the best examples we could ask for on Day 1. Your focus and preparation set the tone for the whole building!
  • Commendations to 5th Grade: For their diligence in taking their time, reviewing their answers, and providing thoughtful responses.

Thank you to all our families for your partnership. Making sure students get enough sleep and a good breakfast makes a world of difference in their confidence and performance.

Have a wonderful weekend,
Principal Moore

AVID: Things to do at home

To support your student during state testing and beyond, here are some key AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) reminders for families to help foster a supportive learning environment at home:

1. The "Teach-Back" Method
AVID emphasizes that teaching someone else is the highest form of learning.
  • Ask your student: "Can you teach me one thing you reviewed in class today?"
  • The Goal: Explaining a concept out loud reinforces their memory and builds the confidence needed for testing day.

2. Establish a "Testing Toolbox" Routine
Success during testing week often starts with physical and mental preparation the night before.
  • Consistency: Stick to a steady evening routine to keep stress levels low.
  • Rest & Fuel: Ensure your student gets plenty of sleep and a healthy breakfast.
  • Quiet Time: Provide a dedicated space for them to decompress after long testing sessions.

3. Organization and Goal Setting
Help your student apply AVID organizational skills to stay on track.
  • Focused Notes: Check in to see how they are using their notes to review for upcoming exams.
  • Goal Discussions: Talk about their goals for the week. Breaking a long testing window into small, daily wins makes it feel more manageable.

Keep it Up: ISAT Testing Continues Next Week!

As we head into next week, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students will continue with their ISAT testing. Our Cheetahs did a fantastic job staying focused this week, and we want to keep that momentum going!

These assessments are a great opportunity for students to show off their hard work. To help them stay energized and ready to shine for round two, please keep these top testing tips in mind:

  • Rest Up: A solid 8–10 hours of sleep makes a huge difference in focus.
  • Fuel the Brain: A nutritious breakfast helps students stay alert through the morning.
  • Be on Time: Arriving at school punctually helps students start the day with a calm, confident mindset.
  • Positive Vibes: A little encouragement goes a long way—remind them that they’ve got this!
  • Take Your Time: Remind them to read carefully and check their work; there's no prize for finishing first!

Thank you for your continued support in keeping testing week a positive and stress-free experience for our students.

Picking Up Students Early

Just a friendly reminder....

If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office by 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and by 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.

This allows us enough time to locate your child, as schedules often change throughout the day and students may be in specials, recess, or other activities. Calling ahead ensures your child is ready and waiting when you arrive.

Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe for all students!
