Dear Cheetah Families,
We are so excited to celebrate the end of a wonderful school year with our annual Reed Family Picnic on the last day of school, Friday, May 29th. We would love to have you join us for lunch on the playground!
Picnic Schedule & Logistics
-
Time: 11:30 AM – 12:15 PM for ALL grades.
-
Check-in: Please proceed around the outside of the school to the gate entry of your child’s playground. You must check in at your child's grade-level tent with their teacher. (Gates on each side of the front of the building and the gate off Deer Flat will be open.)
Location:
-
Grades K-2: Primary playground (south side of campus).
-
Grades 3-5: Intermediate playground (north side of campus).
Lunch Information
-
Bring Your Own: Guests and students are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.
-
Cafeteria Option: Students can also order lunch from the cafeteria to take outside.
-
Guest School Lunch: If you would like a school lunch, please notify the classroom teacher in advance and bring $5.
-
Fast Food Tip: If picking up lunch from local restaurants, please allow extra time. Many local schools are hosting picnics at the same time, and we recommend arriving by 11:30 AM so you don't miss the fun!
Checking Out Early
If you plan to take your child home directly after the picnic, you may sign them out with their teacher at the grade-level tent. Students who are checked out early will receive a wrist band from their teacher, which will allow them to leave campus with their guardian. Students who are not leaving with a guardian will return to class with their teacher once the picnic concludes.
We look forward to seeing you all there for a great afternoon!

Our goal is always to be prepared in the event of an emergency. To ensure we are ready, we regularly practice fire drills, reverse evacuations, lockdowns, and hall checks. While we work hard to prepare our students and staff, there is one critical area where we need help from our Cheetah Families.
As you may be aware, we had a medical emergency this week that required first responders and emergency vehicles to access the school. Because of the time of day, they were able to use the necessary route without delay. However, this serves as an important reminder that emergency routes must remain clear at all times.
We are asking for your help in keeping our students safe by ensuring immediate access for all emergency vehicles. Please do not park along the bus lane/drop-off zone or anywhere the curb is painted red at the front of the building. With your cooperation, we can ensure that first responders are able to access the school in a timely fashion whenever they are needed.

Maintaining AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) strategies over the summer helps prevent "summer slide" and keeps students in a college-ready mindset. You can adapt the core WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, Reading) framework into low-stress, engaging activities at home.
Inquiry (Curiosity & Problem Solving)
-
"What If?" Discussions: During road trips or walks, pose hypothetical questions. For example, "What if we didn't have GPS—how would we find our way?" This builds critical thinking and inquiry-based problem-solving.
-
Science Experiments: Use resources like Science Bob to try hands-on experiments (like making ice cream in a bag). Ask them to predict the outcome before starting.
Collaboration (Learning Together)
-
Family Book Club: Read the same book as your child and discuss it over a meal. Ask open-ended questions like, "Why do you think the character made that choice?" instead of "What happened next?"
-
Shared Projects: Whether it's building a birdhouse or planning a backyard campout, teamwork requires the cooperation and trust-building skills emphasized in AVID.
|
Just a friendly reminder....
If you need to pick up your child early, please call the office by 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and by 12:30 PM on Wednesdays.
This allows us enough time to locate your child, as schedules often change throughout the day and students may be in specials, recess, or other activities. Calling ahead ensures your child is ready and waiting when you arrive.
Thank you for your cooperation and helping us keep dismissal smooth and safe for all students!

Our Child Nutrition Program (CNP) is sharing this reminder about procedures regarding student food allergies and account information:
Allergy Accommodations
- A current medical statement must be on file in order to accommodate any meal-related allergies.
- Without this documentation, we cannot provide allergy accommodations.
Following Medical Statements
- When a medical statement is on file, we must follow it exactly as written.
- Any changes or deviations require updated documentation from the parent or guardian."
The CNP website is listed below. The form is called Meal Accommodation Form. It is available in English and Spanish.
