Dear Parents,
Thank you to everyone who attended parent-teacher conferences this week! We truly appreciate our partnership with you as we watch our students learn and grow.
A special thank you to our parents and PTO for providing dinner for our staff on Wednesday night—it was very much appreciated and enjoyed by everyone.
Have a wonderful three-day weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday morning!

This week marks the start of the Fit-For-Fun fitness program for our students to exercise and earn a Free Wahooz pass.
Students are encouraged to establish an exercise routine and fill in their stars on the Colored Exercise Log.
Stars are colored for every 20 minutes of out-of-school activity, up to 2 stars a day!
Fit for Fun Logs are due December 11th to the classroom teacher. Please encourage your students to get out there and be active!

On Nov. 3, 2026, Kuna School District voters will consider renewing the district’s supplemental levy for two years at the same amount $3,609,360 a year.
If approved, the levy will be used for salaries and benefits for teachers, coaches, and school resource officers for the next two school years to maintain opportunities and supports for students.
Specifically, funds would maintain the following:
- 40 teachers
- 30 coaching stipends
- A School Resource Officer
No Tax Increase
Tax Impact: The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $53.64 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions. The proposed levy replaces an existing levy that expires on June 30, 2027, and that currently costs $53.64 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. Therefore, if the proposed levy is approved, the tax per $100,000 of taxable assessed value is not expected to change. The proposed levy would be assessed for two years.

In AVID, WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. This month, we are focusing on Writing!
Writing is much more than just putting words on paper—it is a key tool for learning, thinking, and organizing thoughts. When students write regularly, they clarify their understanding, retain information better, and develop critical thinking skills across all subjects.
Here is how Inquiry works at school and how parents can support it at home:
Inquiry at School: Building Critical Thinkers
In the classroom, Inquiry pushes students to ask meaningful questions, analyze information, and take ownership of their learning.
-
Costa’s Levels of Thinking: Teachers guide students to move past simple facts (Level 1) into analyzing and comparing (Level 2) and evaluating or applying knowledge to new scenarios (Level 3).
-
Socratic Seminars & Philosophical Chairs: Student-led discussions where kids ask open-ended questions, listen to different perspectives, and defend their reasoning using evidence.
-
Questioning Strategies: Students are encouraged to generate their own questions about texts, experiments, or math problems before, during, and after a lesson.
-
Curiosity & Problem Solving: Lessons begin with a problem, mystery, or real-world challenge that requires investigation rather than a lecture with ready-made answers.
Inquiry at Home: Supporting Curiosity & Deep Thinking
Parents don't need to be subject-matter experts to foster Inquiry—you just need to prompt curiosity and encourage problem-solving!
-
Shift from Direct Answers to Questions: When your child asks, "Why is the sky blue?" or "How do I solve this math problem?", flip the question back to them: "What do you think?" or "What step should we try first to figure it out?"
-
Ask Level 2 & 3 Questions: Replace simple recall questions like "What did you do at school today?" with open-ended prompts:
- "What was something surprising or challenging you encountered today?"
- "How would you explain what you learned in science to a younger kid?"
- "Why do you think the author had the character make that decision?"
-
Embrace the "I Don't Know": If you don't know the answer to a question, model inquiry together: "That’s a great question—let's research it together and see what evidence we can find."
-
Encourage Reflection: After completing homework or a project, ask them: "What went well?", "What was tricky?", and "If you did this over, what would you change?"
-
Connect Learning to Real Life: When making decisions at home (budgeting, planning a meal, repairing something), invite your child to analyze options: "We have two choices for dinner—what are the pros and cons of each?"

We are always excited to welcome parents and guardians into our school community! To ensure a smooth and safe environment for everyone, please keep the following guidelines in mind:
-
Complete the Application: All volunteers must fill out the Volunteer Application on the district website before spending time in classrooms or joining on field trips.
- Plan Ahead for Field Trips: We know field trips are currently being scheduled and many of you may want to chaperone. To participate, you must complete the background check and clear the district screening process at least two days prior to the trip. To prevent last-minute stress or disappointment, please take time to fill out the volunteer application now rather than waiting. We love having our parent volunteers and want to avoid turning anyone away because an application hasn't been processed!
-
Coordinate in Advance: Please reach out directly to your child's teacher to schedule any volunteer visits ahead of time. Volunteers are utilized at the discretion of each teacher.
-
Follow SPOT Expectations: We ask all parent and community volunteers to model the same expectations we set for our students and staff.

The end of the school day is an exceptionally busy time in our office. To help us ensure your child is ready when you arrive, we kindly ask for your partnership with early pick-up requests:
-
Call by 2:00 PM: If you need to pick up your child before dismissal, please call the office prior to 2:00 PM (12:00 PM on Wednesdays).
-
Allow Extra Time: Students are not always in their main classrooms during the afternoon. They may be at recess, in specials (PE, Music, library, technology), or participating in special school events. Retrieving a student from the playground or a specialist room, having them return to their classroom to gather their belongings, and walking to the office takes time.
Calling ahead gives our staff sufficient time to locate your child and have them waiting for you in the office without causing unnecessary delays for your schedule.
Thank you for your support and cooperation in keeping our end-of-day routines running smoothly!
|
To help students stay focused on learning and to keep their favorite items safe, we ask that personal belongings stay at home. Thank you for supporting your child by keeping school a place for learning and play!
|
- Safety of your child(ren) is our priority. Please pick up and drop off your child in the designated areas.
- Be patient, especially as we start the school year and the pick/up drop off routines are new to many families. We will have staff to support you and others outside.
- Give yourself extra time to safely drop off/pick up.
- Be patient with other parents/guardians in the drop off/pick up line.
- No drop off/pick up in the bus lane.
- Do not park in the drop off/pick up lane. If you need to park, use a designated parking spot.
- Drop off may begin no earlier than 8:30am.
-
Pull forward as far as you can. Discuss with your child(ren) the type of car (color, make, model) you will be in at pick up.
- Use designated cross walks to access the parking lot or sidewalks.
- Call the office by 2:00pm if there will be a change in the way your child will normally go home so the teacher can be made aware. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) Notify the office of changes by 12:00 PM on Wednesdays.
|
- Students may not be dropped off prior to 8:30 AM, and do not have supervision on the playground for students until 8:30.

Additionally, all bikes and scooters must be walked—not ridden—while on school grounds, including sidewalks, pick-up/drop-off areas, and blacktops. For safety reasons, skateboards, rollerblades, and similar items are not permitted on campus during school hours. Thank you for supporting a safe and welcoming environment for everyone!
|

Reed is a learning zone. We strive to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.
For that reason, we have any students with cell phones turn them off/silence and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for medical uses). Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).
If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.
Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Cheetahs!
