No School-Friday, October 9, 2026

Reminder that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, October 9, 2026. Teachers will be engaged in professional learning during this time. We look forward to seeing our Cheetahs back on Monday morning!

Neighborhood Parking Courtesy

As a friendly reminder to families picking up students after school, please be mindful of where you park in the surrounding neighborhood. Please ensure you do not park across or block local driveways. Our neighbors need clear, uninterrupted access to enter and leave their homes during dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation and help in being great neighbors!

Book Fair Success!

Thank you to everyone who came to browse the book fair, purchase books, donate books to the classrooms, and sponsor a student to get a book who might not otherwise get one. We appreciate you supporting reading in our young Cheetahs. It is also exciting to see the energy our students have when they are able to get new books!

Collaboration in WICOR: Building Stronger Team Members & Communicators

In AVID, WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. This focus is on Collaboration!

Collaboration is much more than working in groups—it is learning to work together toward a shared goal, respect diverse perspectives, and take joint ownership of learning. When students collaborate, they develop essential communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills needed for school, career, and life.

Collaboration at School: Working & Thinking Together

In the classroom, Collaboration moves beyond simple group work into active teamwork with shared accountability. Teachers guide students to build positive interdependence, listen actively, and value everyone's contribution.

  • Socratic Seminars & Philosophical Chairs: Student-led discussions where kids listen to various perspectives, ask open-ended questions, and respectfully build on or challenge each other's ideas.
  • Jigsaw & Expert Groups: Students become "experts" on a specific piece of a topic and teach it to their group, ensuring every member plays a critical role.
  • Focused Study Groups & Peer Review: Small groups work together to solve complex problems, edit each other's work, and deepen understanding through peer feedback.
  • Shared Responsibilities & Group Roles: Assigning specific roles (e.g., facilitator, timekeeper, recorder, presenter) so that every student contributes meaningfully.

Collaboration at Home: Supporting Teamwork & Active Listening

You don't need formal group projects to practice collaboration at home! You can help your child build teamwork and communication skills through daily routines and interactions.
  • Practice Active Listening: Encourage your child to summarize what someone else said before responding (e.g., "So what you're saying is..." or "I hear that you feel...").
  • Include Them in Family Decision-Making: Involve your child in collaborative problem-solving, such as planning a weekend itinerary, making a grocery list, or deciding on family chores.
  • Divide and Conquer Tasks: Frame chores or family projects as team efforts where everyone has a specific, valued role (e.g., one person washes, one dries, one puts away).
  • Work Through Disagreements Respectfully: When conflicts arise between siblings or family members, guide them to express their feelings using "I" statements and brainstorm solutions together rather than stepping in to give a quick fix.
  • Encourage Group Study & Peer Learning: Support opportunities for your child to work on homework, study for quizzes, or read with classmates, siblings, or friends.

Wahooz Fit for Fun Program

This week marks the start of the Fit-For-Fun fitness program for our students to exercise and earn a Free Wahooz pass.

Students are encouraged to establish an exercise routine and fill in their stars on the Colored Exercise Log.

Stars are colored for every 20 minutes of out-of-school activity, up to 2 stars a day!

Fit for Fun Logs are due December 11th to the classroom teacher.  Please encourage your students to get out there and be active!

Voter Registration Reminder for Families

If you are a first-time voter, have recently moved, or have moved to Idaho from another state, please take a moment to check or update your voter registration status.

You can verify your record or register online through the official VoteIdaho Voter Services Portal or by visiting VoteIdaho.gov.

The next election is Tuesday, November 3, 2026 and no school will be held that day.

Kuna School District Supplemental Levy

On Nov. 3, 2026, Kuna School District voters will consider renewing the district’s supplemental levy for two years at the same amount $3,609,360 a year.

If approved, the levy will be used for salaries and benefits for teachers, coaches, and school resource officers for the next two school years to maintain opportunities and supports for students.

Specifically, funds would maintain the following:
  • 40 teachers
  • 30 coaching stipends
  • A School Resource Officer

No Tax Increase
Tax Impact: The estimated average annual cost to the taxpayer on the proposed levy is a tax of $53.64 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value, per year, based on current conditions. The proposed levy replaces an existing levy that expires on June 30, 2027, and that currently costs $53.64 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value. Therefore, if the proposed levy is approved, the tax per $100,000 of taxable assessed value is not expected to change. The proposed levy would be assessed for two years.

Bikes, Scooters, and Wheels

To help keep all students, families, and staff safe, we ask that no motorized bikes, scooters, segways, or similar devices be used on campus. Additionally, all bikes and scooters must be walked—not ridden—while on school grounds, including sidewalks, pick-up/drop-off areas, and blacktops. For safety reasons, skateboards, rollerblades, and similar items are not permitted on campus during school hours. Thank you for supporting a safe and welcoming environment for everyone!

Early Release Wednesdays

Wednesdays are early release days. This means your students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM EVERY Wednesday. We thank you in advance for planning accordingly for pick up.

Cell phones and smart devices

Reed is a learning zone. We strive to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.

For that reason, we have any students with cell phones turn them off/silence and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for medical uses). Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).

If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Cheetahs!
