It’s Been a Busy Week at Reed!

What an exciting and action-packed week we’ve had at Reed Elementary! Our Cheetahs have been hard at work and celebrating some incredible milestones together:

  • Cheetah Run Celebrations: Students celebrated reaching their mini-goals from the Cheetah Run fundraiser by enjoying a fun Pajama Day and Hat Day!
  • SPOT Store Shopping: Students put their positive behavior to work and enjoyed "purchasing" items from the SPOT store with their hard-earned rewards.
  • Popcorn Day: We enjoyed another delicious Popcorn Day thanks to our wonderful volunteers!
  • 3rd Grade Field Trip: Our third graders had a fantastic learning adventure on their field trip to Celebration Park.
  • STEM with Dr. Pickelstein: Science came alive as Dr. Pickelstein visited Reed to demonstrate some amazing STEM activities! The students were captivated by the exciting booms and sounds of his experiments.
  • KHS Ag Pals Visit: Today, the Kuna High School Ag Pals visited our 4th graders to make ice cream in a bag. The warm sunshine, connecting with our high school Kavemen, and making a sweet treat together made for a perfect afternoon.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered for the field trip, helped remind students about our special dress-up reward days, and supports our school community each and every day. We truly could not do it without you!

Halloween at Reed!

2026 Halloween at Reed
Class Activities
Teachers are organizing school appropriate class celebrations and will share this information with you. All food items for the class party must be commercially produced.  We cannot accept homemade goodies.
Parade (3:10-3:30)
We will have a school wide costume parade at the end of the day.  2nd - 5th grade students will put on their costumes a few minutes before the parade. Teachers will lead their classes through the parade.  Costumes are not required, but all students will have the opportunity to walk the parade route and see others’ costumes.  At the completion of the parade, students will return to their classrooms to gather their belongings.  Students will be dismissed from school in their costumes.
Costumes
  • Kindergarten and 1st grade only – Students in kindergarten and 1st grade will be allowed to come to school with their costumes already on over their clothes
  • 2nd-5th Grade Students -   Bring in a bag—Do NOT wear to school, unless you can still participate in school activities and specials. (Our dress day for Red Ribbon Week is Halloween Costumes.)
  • Costumes must fit over clothes.
  • Students will put costumes on in the classroom over their clothing before the parade.  Students should practice putting their costume on by themselves at home.
  • Students will be dismissed from school in their costumes
  • Focus on fun, not scary – No blood or gore
  • No makeup, body, or face paint of any kind
  • No “costume masks” of any kind
  • No toy weapons or props
*One of the expectations at Reed is to take Responsibility.  It is important that everyone adhere to the costume guidelines to make this a fun and memorable day!  Please help us ensure that students are responsible for following these rules.   These rules will be strictly followed and enforced.

Organization in WICOR: Building Lifelong Habits for Success

In AVID, WICOR stands for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. This focus is on Organization! Organization is more than just keeping a tidy desk—it is learning how to manage time, space, and information effectively. When students develop strong organizational skills, they gain independence, reduce stress, and set themselves up for success in school, career, and life.

Organization at School: Structuring Space, Time, and Thought
In the classroom, teachers guide students to use organizational systems that keep them focused, prepared, and ready to learn.
  • Binder & Folder Systems: Keeping materials sorted by subject using color-coded folders or labeled binder sections so papers are easy to find and turn in on time.
  • Focused Note-Taking: Formatting notes clearly using tools like Cornell Notes or graphic organizers to structure main ideas, key details, and summaries.
  • Planners & Agendas: Recording assignments, project due dates, and upcoming tests daily to track progress and plan ahead.
  • Organized Workspaces: Maintaining clean desks and backpack routines so learning tools are accessible and distraction-free.
Organization at Home: Supporting Routines & Responsibility
You don't need fancy tools to practice organization at home! You can help your child build great habits through simple daily routines and supportive environments.
  • Establish a Daily Homework Space: Set up a quiet, well-lit area stocked with basic supplies (pencils, paper, eraser) so your child can dive right into learning without searching for materials.
  • Build a "Launchpad" Routine: Designate a specific spot near the door for backpacks, shoes, and coats. Pack bags the night before to ensure a smooth, stress-free morning.
  • Review Planners & Folders Together: Take 5 minutes each evening to look through your child's planner or homework folder, discuss upcoming projects, and celebrate completed work.
  • Break Big Tasks into Smaller Steps: When your child faces a large project or chore, teach them to chunk it into manageable, step-by-step goals with target completion times.
  • Create Visual Schedules & Family Calendars: Keep a shared family calendar or visual checklist for daily routines (e.g., morning routine, after-school habits, bedtime steps) to encourage self-direction.

Neighborhood Parking Courtesy

As a friendly reminder to families picking up students after school, please be mindful of where you park in the surrounding neighborhood. Please ensure you do not park across or block local driveways. Our neighbors need clear, uninterrupted access to enter and leave their homes during dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation and help in being great neighbors!

Wahooz Fit for Fun Program

This week marks the start of the Fit-For-Fun fitness program for our students to exercise and earn a Free Wahooz pass.

Students are encouraged to establish an exercise routine and fill in their stars on the Colored Exercise Log.

Stars are colored for every 20 minutes of out-of-school activity, up to 2 stars a day!

Fit for Fun Logs are due December 11th to the classroom teacher.  Please encourage your students to get out there and be active!

Bikes, Scooters, and Wheels

To help keep all students, families, and staff safe, we ask that no motorized bikes, scooters, segways, or similar devices be used on campus. Additionally, all bikes and scooters must be walked—not ridden—while on school grounds, including sidewalks, pick-up/drop-off areas, and blacktops. For safety reasons, skateboards, rollerblades, and similar items are not permitted on campus during school hours. Thank you for supporting a safe and welcoming environment for everyone!

Early Release Wednesdays

Wednesdays are early release days. This means your students will be dismissed at 1:30 PM EVERY Wednesday. We thank you in advance for planning accordingly for pick up.

Cell phones and smart devices

Reed is a learning zone. We strive to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.

For that reason, we have any students with cell phones turn them off/silence and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for medical uses). Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).

If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.

Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Cheetahs!
