Cheetah Families,
A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support our Chick-fil-A fundraiser on Wednesday! It was so much fun seeing so many families out for dinner, watching every kid play the Plinko board and walk away a winner, and having such awesome support from our staff.
Mrs. Smith did a fabulous job organizing, and our amazing friends and family outdid themselves—we couldn't have done it without you. Thanks to your generosity, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Lambert will receive $1,600 for new PE equipment!

What a fun afternoon! We had a wonderful time at our annual Halloween parade today—the energy was so high, and everyone loved seeing all the fantastic costumes! A huge thank you to all of our incredible parent volunteers and everyone who helped out with classroom activities today. We couldn't have done it without you!
Wishing all of our students and families a safe, happy, and spooktacular Halloween! 🍁👻

In the classroom, teachers guide students through structured reading strategies designed to move them beyond simply pronouncing words to truly understanding and analyzing text:
Fountain Middle School Teacher's Programs and Strategies Website - WordPress.com
-
Marking the Text: Students active-read by numbering paragraphs, underlining main ideas, and circling key vocabulary or unfamiliar words.
-
Writing in the Margins: Students jot down questions, connections, quick summaries, or reactions directly alongside the text as they read.
-
Graphic Organizers & Cornell Notes: Utilizing structured templates to pull out main ideas, organize supporting details, and summarize the text.
-
Pre-Reading Strategies: Scanning headings, images, and captions, or making predictions before reading to set a clear purpose.
-
Think-Alouds & Read-Alouds: Teachers model thought processes while reading to demonstrate how proficient readers question, clarify, and synthesize information.
Reading at Home: Supporting Habits & Comprehension
You don't need specialized teaching materials to support active reading at home. Simple daily routines can significantly strengthen your child’s critical reading habits:
-
Ask Active Reading Questions: Before, during, and after reading, ask open-ended questions:
-
Before: "What do you think this book will be about based on the cover or title?"
-
During: "Why do you think the character made that choice?" or "What does this word mean in this sentence?"
-
After: "Can you summarize the main idea in 2–3 sentences?"
-
Encourage "Marking" or Note-Taking: Have sticky notes handy so your child can tag interesting facts, write down questions, or flag unfamiliar words while reading home books or assignments.
-
Model Reading as a Family: Let your child see you read books, articles, or recipes. Reading together or taking turns reading aloud builds confidence and vocabulary.
-
Connect Texts to Real Life: Encourage your child to make connections between what they read and their own experiences, other books, or world events.
-
Explore Non-Fiction & Disciplinary Texts: Encourage reading articles, news items, diagrams, and instructions alongside storybooks to build background knowledge across diverse topics.

To help keep all students, families, and staff safe, we ask that no motorized bikes, scooters, segways, or similar devices be used on campus. Additionally, all bikes and scooters must be walked—not ridden—while on school grounds, including sidewalks, pick-up/drop-off areas, and blacktops. For safety reasons, skateboards, rollerblades, and similar items are not permitted on campus during school hours. Thank you for supporting a safe and welcoming environment for everyone!

Reed is a learning zone. We strive to have uninterrupted instruction time and we want kids to be able to play with each other.
For that reason, we have any students with cell phones turn them off/silence and leave them in their backpacks during the school day (except for medical uses). Smart watches can be used as watches or tools (example: the calculator function), but not as a cell phone (example: texting).
If a student is using their phone or smart watch while on campus, we have them bring it to the office for the rest of the day. If they do it a second time, we have them bring it to the office and keep it there for a parent to pick up.
Please help us protect instruction and social interaction time for our Cheetahs!
